Americans have been bearing the brunt of record inflation for months, shelling out more cash for everyday expenses like groceries and gas. The inflation blame game escalated over the weekend, pitting President Joe Biden against Amazon founder Jeff Bezos.

The White House responded Monday, saying Bezos “opposes an economic agenda for the middle class.”

Bezos replied on Twitter once more, arguing that the Biden administration would have made inflation worse if its $3.5 trillion economic and social spending bill, known as “Build Back Better,” had become law.

Bezos, the world’s second wealthiest person, has generally sought to avoid public political scuffles.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.

MAHMOUD BENNETT: WHO’S CAUSING THIS MASSIVE HIKE IN PRICES? IS IT THE WEALTHIEST AMERICANS OR THE ADMINISTRATION IN POWER?

JEFF BEZOS AND THE WHITE HOUSE WENT AT IT OVER THE WEEKEND.

PRESIDENT BIDEN TWEETED: YOU WANT TO BRING DOWN INFLATION? LET’S MAKE SURE THE WEALTHIEST CORPORATIONS PAY THEIR FAIR SHARE.

BEZOS TOOK A JAB SAYING THE ADMIN’S NEW DISINFORMATION BOARD SHOULD FACT CHECK THAT – TWEETING: UNIONS AREN’T CAUSING INFLATION AND NEITHER ARE WEALTHY PEOPLE.

REGARDLESS OF THE CAUSE, PRICES ARE UP AND ECONOMISTS ATTRIBUTE THIS PARTICULAR SPIKE TO STIMULUS SPENDING – INCLUDING LAST YEAR’S BIDEN BACKED AMERICAN RESCUE PLAN.

THERE’S ALSO THE WAR IN UKRAINE WHICH IS DRIVING UP THE PRICES OF CRITICAL SUPPLIES ACCORDING TO THE IMF.

STILL, BIDEN SAYS HE WANTS TO TAX THE RICH BUT FALLS SHORT ON SUPPORT IN CONGRESS.

RIGHT NOW JEFF BEZOS IS THE SECOND RICHEST MAN IN THE WORLD AND THE FOUNDER OF AMAZON WHICH PAID NO FEDERAL TAXES IN 2017 AND 2018.

BEZOS SAYS QUOTE “RAISING CORP TAXES IS FINE TO DISCUSS AND TAMING INFLATION IS CRITICAL. MUSHING THEM TOGETHER IS JUST MISDIRECTION”.
