According to a announcement from CNN, former President Donald Trump has agreed to participate in a CNN Presidential Town Hall on May 10 at 9 p.m. ET. Trump, who is seeking to bolster his support for a second presidential run, has frequently referred to CNN as “fake news” and “the enemy of the people.”

The decision to air the town hall has faced pushback, with some suggesting that it grants political favors to Trump who currently faces multiple criminal investigations. Others argue that it presents a legitimate opportunity to ask questions and fact-check the former president who currently leads the GOP presidential field by double digits.

CNN has stated that it has “a longstanding tradition of hosting leading presidential candidates for town halls and political events as a critical component of the network’s robust campaign coverage,” as reported by The Guardian.

CNN reports the town hall event will be moderated by CNN’s Kaitlan Collins, and will feature questions from New Hampshire Republicans and undeclared voters who plan to vote in 2024.

This event would mark Trump’s first appearance on CNN since his 2016 campaign. Trump never gave an interview to a CNN journalist while he was president.
