As food deliveries stop or delay, schools scramble to serve lunch

Schools across the country are running low on lunches and food supplies due to delayed deliveries and fewer cafeteria workers. To cope, some schools have tried freezing meals and purchasing food from wholesale stores like Sam’s Club, even though the food may not meet federal nutrition guidelines.

One Missouri school district director says three of her food distributors have stopped delivering supplies, and driver shortages are forcing other deliveries to arrive late. One school district in Dallas has served finger foods as a breakfast option to reduce the use of cutlery, which is also running low.
