‘Great replacement’ conspiracy fuels racist attacks

Investigators have considered a racist ideology to be a motivating factor in the supermarket shooting that killed 10 people in Buffalo, New York. The “great replacement theory” claims there’s a plot to diminish the influence of white people.

The mainstream view in the U.S. suggests Democrats are encouraging immigration so more like-minded potential voters replace “traditional” Americans, according to Mark Pitcavage, senior research fellow at the Anti-Defamation League Center on Extremism.

In a poll released last week, The Associated Press and the NORC Center for Public Affairs Research found that about 1 in 3 Americans believe an effort is underway to replace U.S.-born Americans with immigrants for electoral gain.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.

MAHMOUD BENNETT: A RACIALLY MOTIVATED ATTACK.

THAT’S HOW AUTHORITIES ARE DESCRIBING THE DEADLY MASS SHOOTING AT A SUPERMARKET IN BUFFALO, NEW YORK.

BUT THIS TARGETED ACT OF VIOLENCE HAS AN INTERESTING LINK TO 3 OF THE WORST MASS SHOOTINGS IN THE PAST DECADE.

ALL SHOOTERS – EITHER DIRECTLY OR INDIRECTLY INVOKED THE GREAT REPLACEMENT THEORY: SO WHAT IS IT?

IT’S THE IDEA THAT PEOPLE OF COLOR ARE BEING BROUGHT INTO WESTERN COUNTRIES TO REPLACE WHITE VOTERS

IN 2017, IT MADE HEADLINES HERE IN THE U.S.

AND NOW-

TUCKER CARLSON:  “THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY IS TRYING TO REPLACE THE CURRENT ELECTORATE – THE VOTERS NOW CASTING BALLOTS WITH NEW PEOPLE, MORE OBEDIENT VOTERS FROM THE THIRD WORLD. LET’S JUST SAY IT THAT’S TRUE.”

BENNETT: THE GREAT REPLACEMENT THEORY VIEWS IMMIGRATION AS AN INVASION – *A PLOT* TO REPLACE THE POLITICAL POWER OF THE WHITE MAJORITY.

AND ACCORDING TO THE NATIONAL IMMIGRATION FORUM – IT’S ALWAYS BEEN  A PART OF THE AMERICAN DEBATE ON WHO SHOULD COME INTO THE COUNTRY

AN AP POLL FOUND THAT 1 IN 3 AMERICANS DO WORRY THAT IMMIGRATION IS CAUSING NATIVE BORN AMERICANS TO LOSE ECONOMIC, POLITICAL AND CULTURAL INFLUENCE.

BUT SOME EXPERTS ARE WORRIED THESE EXTREME VIEWS COULD BECOME MAINSTREAM AND TRANSLATE INTO MORE VIOLENCE.
