“It’s just too soon to tell”: Dr. Fauci on celebrating Christmas with family

By Jimmie Johnson, Mahmoud Bennett

Dr. Anthony Fauci is under fire following comments he made during an interview on the CBS Sunday talk show ‘Face The Nation.’

It’s just too soon to tell,” said Dr. Fauci, when asked whether Americans should gather with family this Christmas. “We just need to concentrate on getting those numbers down and not try to jump ahead by weeks or months and say what we’re going to do at a particular time.”

The interview drew mixed reactions on social media platforms, and for a few hours, Dr. Fauci was trending on Twitter.

The CDC released new holiday tips on how to safely celebrate the holiday with family and friends but did not mention people should not gather.

The biggest takeaway from the CDC guidelines reads “the safest way to celebrate is virtually, with people who live with you, or outside 6-feet apart from others.”

However, if you do plan to celebrate with others indoors, the CDC suggests being vaccinated.

JIMMIE JOHNSON: FAUCI OR GRAUCI? THAT’S THE QUESTION.

IT DOESN’T TAKE MUCH FOR DR. ANTHONY FAUCI TO START TRENDING.

IN AN INTERVIEW ON CBS FACE THE NATION, AMERICA’S LEADING INFECTIOUS DISEASE DOCTOR WAS ASKED WHETHER AMERICANS SHOULD GATHER WITH FAMILIES THIS YEAR FOR CHRISTMAS.

DR. ANTHONY FAUCI: “It’s just too soon to tell. We just need to concentrate on getting those numbers down and not try to jump ahead by weeks or months and say what we’re going to do at a particular time.”

JIMMIE: THE THOUGHT OF PEOPLE SPENDING THE HOLIDAY AWAY FROM FAMILY DID NOT SIT WELL WITH MANY ONLINE.

ONE USER TWEETED, “TIS THE SEASON TO BE A HYPOCRITE.”

WHILE ANOTHER SAID, “DR. FAUCI IS NOT A FOE, HE IS A FRIEND.”

FAUCI’S FRIENDS AT FOX NEWS CHIMED IN AS WELL.

FOX AND FRIENDS ANCHOR: ”So, no wonder Dr. Fauci’s about to cancel Christmas… we’re not going to have any presents anyway. So, it’s really going to work out.”

JIMMIE: FAUCI’S COMMENTS COME AS MORE AMERICANS HAVE GONE BACK TO WORK,

SPORTS FANS ARE PACKING INTO STADIUMS, AND HOLLYWOOD IS HOSTING IN-PERSON AWARD SHOWS AGAIN.

COVID-19 NUMBERS ARE ALSO SLIGHTLY HIGHER THAN THEY WERE THIS TIME LAST YEAR, BUT IT’S DUE TO THE SPREAD OF THE DELTA VARIANT.

HEALTH EXPERTS SAY IT’S UNCLEAR WHAT WILL HAPPEN HEADING INTO THE HOLIDAYS.

MICHAEL OSTERHOLM: These models come out and have been wrong so often and all we can tell you is that they’re still 70 million Americans who have not been vaccinated who are still susceptible to this virus that will be the wood for this human coronavirus to burn.”

JIMMIE: THE C-D-C RELEASED ITS HOLIDAY TIPS HIGHLIGHTING THE SAFEST WAYS FOR YOU TO CELEBRATE THE HOLIDAYS WITH FAMILY AND FRIENDS.

WHILE CDC’S GUIDELINES HIGHLY RECOMMEND AMERICANS GET VACCINATED OR WEAR MASKS IF UNVACCINATED, NOWHERE DOES IT MENTION PEOPLE SHOULD NOT GATHER.

HOWEVER, IT DOES MENTION “THE SAFEST WAY TO CELEBRATE IS VIRTUALLY, WITH PEOPLE WHO LIVE WITH YOU, OR OUTSIDE AND AT LEAST 6 FEET APART FROM OTHERS”

HOW DO YOU PLAN TO CELEBRATE THE HOLIDAYS THIS YEAR?
