Headlines for Tuesday July 12, 2022 include:

Jan. 6 committee to hold hearing: The select House committee on the Jan. 6 Capitol riots will host its seventh public hearing Tuesday. The hearing is expected to focus on participation of right wing extremist groups like the Oath Keepers and the Proud Boys

Members of the groups are facing criminal charges for their participation. Part of Tuesday’s hearing will center around a tweet former President Donald Trump sent on Dec. 19, 2020. On “Meet the Press” over the weekend, committee member Rep. Stephanie Murphy (D-FL) described the tweet as “a siren call” to extremist groups.

“Peter Navarro released 36-page report alleging election fraud ‘more than sufficient’ to swing victory to Trump,” Trump tweeted. “Statistically impossible to have lost the 2020 Election. Big protest in D.C. on January 6th. Be there, will be wild!”

Biden to meet with Obrador: President Joe Biden will meet with Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador Tuesday. The White House said the meeting will showcase the underlying strength of a relationship that has otherwise seemed to be on the fritz lately.

“The leaders will discuss their efforts to address global challenges, such as food security, and discuss joint competitiveness initiatives, such as work being undertaken in the U.S.-Mexico High-Level Economic Dialogue,” White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said in a statement last month. “They also plan to discuss their visions for North America, cooperation on migration, joint development efforts in Central America, security, climate and energy, and global issues.”

This meeting marks the first between the two since President López Obrador declined President Biden’s invitation to the Summit of the Americas last month. López Obrador has also called U.S. support for Ukraine in its war with Russia “a crass error.”

The meeting also comes as Republicans continue to criticize Biden over record numbers of migrant crossings through the southern U.S. border.

Amazon Prime Day begins:  Amazon Prime Day began Tuesday. The annual sales event runs through Wednesday.

The 2022 edition of Amazon Prime Day comes after the company reported a rare quarterly loss in April due to slowing sales and an extra $2 billion in costs due to inflation. Amazon also acknowledged it had too many workers due to a massive warehouse expansion during the pandemic.

The company has said it expects its excess capacity from the expansion to total $10 billion in extra costs for the first half of 2022.
