Lego covered gun may look like a toy but it can kill

By Taylor Knight (Social Media Reporter), Mahmoud Bennett (Associate Producer)

Utah manufacturer Culper Precision is catching heat for selling a gun that looks like a Lego toy. A cease and desist letter from Lego forced the manufacturer to halt sales.

The manufacturer says the firearm was designed to give owners the ability to build a Lego structure on top of it, begging the question: was Culper Precision trying to target children with the toy-themed gun?

TAYLOR KNIGHT:

STEPPING ON A LEGO IS PAINFUL ENOUGH.

GETTING SHOT BY A GUN THAT LOOKS LIKE A LEGO IS A WHOLE DIFFERENT STORY.

UTAH GUN MANUFACTURER, CULPER PRECISION RECENTLY CAME OUT WITH A HANDGUN THAT CAN LOOK LIKE IT WAS MADE OUT OF LEGOS.

THE AD READS “HERE IS ONE OF THOSE CHILDHOOD DREAMS COME TO LIFE”.

NO SURPRISE, THERE WAS MAJOR PUSH-BACK ON SOCIAL MEDIA WITH SOME PEOPLE CALLING IT IRRESPONSIBLE AND QUESTIONING WHETHER THEY ARE TRYING TO APPEAL TO YOUNGER PEOPLE.

LIKE CAMEL DID WITH ITS CIGARETTES AND SOME VAPING COMPANIES DID WITH ITS CANDY FLAVORS.

GET THIS. THE LEGO COMPANY ACTED QUICKLY WITH A CEASE-AND-DESIST LETTER, DEMANDING CULPER PRECISION STOP SELLING IT, AND THEY COMPLIED.

BUT HERE’S THE THING. NO FEDERAL LAW PROHIBITS GUNS FROM BEING MADE TO LOOK LIKE TOYS. THEY ONLY PROHIBIT TOYS FROM BEING MADE TO LOOK LIKE GUNS.

BY MAKING THE GUN LOOK LIKE A TOY, DO YOU THINK THE COMPANY WAS TRYING TO TARGET YOUNGER PEOPLE?
