Money tapped for border wall to be returned to the military

The White House announced Friday it will return the more than $2 billion former President Donald Trump tapped for border wall construction to its original fund.

The Office of Management and Budget detailed how the money will be used to fund 66 military projects covering 11 states, three U.S. territories and 16 countries. Projects include renovating a U.S. military school in Germany and building a firing range in Indiana.

The money was redirected after President Joe Biden issued an executive order pausing wall construction on his first day in office.

Former President Trump secured about $15 billion for the project. $10 billion of it came from U.S. military funds during in his four years in office.

Friday’s announcement comes a day after Texas Governor Greg Abbott announced his state would restart border wall construction. He also said Texas will increase arrests of migrants trying to enter the country in the coming days.

The state’s new budget includes more than $1 billion for border security.
