More than 1,000 migrants pushed back border authorities on Sunday, Mar. 12 at the Santa Fe International Bridge in El Paso, Texas. They were trying to cross the dividing line between Mexico and the United States.

Migrants were seen pushing back police, pushing through orange barricades, and jumping through razor barbed wire. Young children were seen in the crowds of migrants as disorder at the entry point erupted. The majority of the migrants were said to be from Venezuela.

Hundreds of migrants rushed through toll booths on the bridge after they were duped by an online rumor. The migrants said there was word of a special “Migrants Day” on social media that would open the border for migrants to cross freely.

Customs and Border Protection has since increased the number of agents at the bridge in response to the sudden rush.

President Biden introduced an app last year for asylum seekers to book appointments at the border. But the app has reportedly experienced glitches brought on by high demand.

The Department of Homeland Security said it made recent updates to the app that will simplify and speed up the process.
