Former President Barack Obama told House Democrats it “doesn’t help to whine about the stuff you can’t change” and instead advised them to “take the wins you can get.” According to Punchbowl News, the conversation happened on a Zoom call during a messaging summit for House Democrats.

“Democrats have a tendency to complain about what we didn’t get done rather than talking about what we did get done,” Obama said, urging Members to focus on the positive.

Obama told the group that he had to keep this in mind as he was compromising on what would be included in his Affordable Care Act.

“If we can get some stuff done, some major domestic initiative, some progress on climate…there will come a point where you decide if you are getting nothing or getting that,” Obama said.

Congressional Democrats did this in 2021, as they split President’ Biden’s proposed physical and human infrastructure bills into two parts so the legislation could pass. President Biden has indicated he believes Democrats will narrow down his Build Back Better bill so that it will pass through Congress.

STOP WHINING…

THAT’S THE MESSAGE BARACK OBAMA HAD FOR HOUSE DEMOCRATS IN A ZOOM CALL DURING THEIR MESSAGING RETREAT.

ACCORDING TO PUNCHBOWL NEWS.. OBAMA TOLD THE GROUP “Democrats have a tendency to complain about what we didn’t get done rather than talking about what we did get done,”

AND WE SEE THAT IN ACTION.

TAKE SOT- SEN. BERNIE SANDERS (I-VT)

<<”what has bothered me very much is the republicans are laughing all the way to election day they have not had to cast one bloody vote.”>>

TAKE SOT- REP. RO KHANNA (D-CA)

<<”The filibuster is a relic of the Jim Crow era. It has no moral legitimacy. It should have been removed years ago and it certainly should be removed now.””>>

Annie Andersen: OBAMA THEN GAVE EXAMPLES OF THE CHALLENGES HE HAD PASSING THE AFFORDABLE CARE ACT…

“If we can get some stuff done, some major domestic initiative, some progress on climate…there will come a point where you decide if you are getting nothing or getting that.”

AND WE DID SEE CONGRESS DO THAT WITH THE INFRASTRUCTURE PACKAGE SPLITTING UP AID INTO SEPARATE BILLS. BUT SOME IN THE PARTY ARGUED THAT WAS A MISTAKE.

TAKE SOT- REP. Cori Bush (D-MO)

<<”What we had was a bit of leverage which was having the coupling of the two bills, the BIF, the infrastructure package, as well as the build back better package. Having those coupled together was the only leverage we had. And what did the caucus do, we tossed it.”>>

Annie Andersen: As the focus shifts to a winning strategy for the midterms –

Democrats may want to strive for, in obama’s words ‘the wins you can get’
