Republican Allan Fung could turn Rhode Island red

By , ,

Heading into the midterms, the Democrats’ strategy is clear. They’re presenting Republicans as pro-Trump, pro-life, and skeptical of election results.

But Republican Congressional candidate Allan Fung said he is a moderate and could flip a congressional district in Rhode Island that has been blue since 1991. Fung said he doesn’t support late-term abortions but he also doesn’t support complete abortion bans. He said when it comes to that particular issue, he’s more “in the middle”.

Allan Fung is the former mayor of Cranston, Rhode Island’s second largest city.

“We did the right things to take a city that was in the red, financially hurting, and turned it around to make it one of the best cities to live in America,” Fung said

According to WPRI, some polls show Fung leading his opponent.

SHANNON LONGWORTH: THIS MODERATE REPUBLICAN CANDIDATE COULD FLIP A CONGRESSIONAL DISTRICT IN RHODE ISLAND THAT’S BEEN BLUE SINCE 1991.

ALLEN FUNG IS JUST ONE NAME YOU NEED TO KNOW HEADING INTO THE MIDTERMS.

IN THE WEEKS BEFORE ELECTION DAY, DEMOCRATS’ CAMPAIGN STRATEGY IS TO MOBILIZE AGAINST REPUBLICANS, WHO THEY PORTRAY AS: SKEPTICAL OF ELECTION RESULTS, PRO-TRUMP, AND PRO-LIFE.

“IF I NEEDED…IF I NEEDED…IF MY DAUGHTER NEEDED AN ABORTION….ALLAN FUNG WOULD LET STATES MAKE THAT A CRIME. AND THEN LOCK ME IN JAIL.”FRANKLY, THIS NARRATIVE IS INACCURATE FOR SOME MODERATES–INCLUDING FUNG.“PRO-CHOICE OR PRO-LIFE?”

FUNG: “AGAIN, LIKE I SAID BEFORE, I DON’T CLASSIFY MYSELF ON EITHER ONE OF THE EXTREMES BECAUSE I DON’T SUPPORT LATE-TERM ABORTIONS, WHICH MANY LIKE THE PRESIDENT ARE GOING FOR WHEN THEY CLASSIFY THEMSELVES AS PRO-CHOICE. PRO-LIFE–SOME ON THAT SIDE OF THE ISSUE JUST WANT A TOTAL COMPLETE BAN. I’M MORE IN THE MIDDLE OF THIS SO I DON’T REALLY WANT TO LABEL MYSELF..”

LONGWORTH: FUNG IS THE FORMER MAYOR OF CRANSTON, RHODE ISLAND’S SECOND LARGEST CITY.

FUNG: “WE DID THE RIGHT THINGS TO TAKE A CITY THAT WAS IN THE RED FINANCIALLY HURTING AND TURNED IT AROUND TO MAKE IT ONE OF THE BEST CITIES TO LIVE IN AMERICA.”

LONGWORTH: WITH THE ECONOMY AS HIS TOP PRIORITY, FUNG THEORETICALLY MAKES HIMSELF APPEALING TO A BROAD SPECTRUM OF VOTERS.

A MONMOUTH POLL FROM EARLIER THIS MONTH SHOWS 82 PERCENT OF AMERICANS CONSIDER INFLATION AN EXTREMELY OR VERY IMPORTANT ISSUE.

EXACTLY HOW MANY RHODE ISLANDERS AGREE AND VOTE IN LINE WITH THAT VALUE IS SOMETHING WE’LL FIND OUT ON ELECTION NIGHT.

AS OF EARLY OCTOBER, A SUFFOLK POLL SHOWED FUNG IN THE LEAD…WITH 45 PERCENT OF VOTES…WHILE HIS COMPETITOR, DEMOCRAT SETH MAGAZINER WAS AT 37 PERCENT.

THIS RACE IS FOR ONE OF SEVERAL HOUSE SEATS IN NEW ENGLAND THAT REPUBLICANS ARE HOPING TO PICK UP AS PART OF A “RED WAVE” AND USE TO BUILD A MAJORITY.

THAT’S ALLAN FUNG: JUST ONE NAME YOU NEED TO KNOW.
