THE BIDEN ADMINISTRATION SET AN AMBITIOUS GOAL WEDNESDAY. TO PROVIDE ELECTRICITY TO NEARLY 50-PERCENT OF THE COUNTRY USING SOLAR POWER BY 2050. BIDEN HOPES TO ACCOMPLISH THIS THROUGH HIS TRADITIONAL INFRASTRUCTURE PLAN, WHICH HAS RECEIVED SOME BIPARTISAN SUPPORT.  

TURNING TO THE UPCOMING MIDTERM ELECTIONS. SEVERAL REPORTS INDICATE FORMER PRESIDENT DONALD TRUMP IS EXPECTED TO ENDORSE HARRIET HAGEMAN, AN ATTORNEY, RUNNING TO REPLACE CONGRESSWOMAN LIZ CHENEY OF WYOMING. CHENEY IS A FIERCE CRITIC OF THE FORMER PRESIDENT AND VOTED TO IMPEACH TRUMP THE SECOND TIME. 

THAT WAS A VIDEO FROM RICHMOND, VIRGINIA, WHERE CREWS REMOVED ONE OF THE LAST STATUES OF ROBERT E. LEE. THE CONFEDERATE AND SLAVE-OWNING GENERAL LED THE SOUTH’S FIGHT AGAINST THE NORTH IN THE CIVIL WAR. GOVERNOR RALPH NORTHAM ORDERED THAT THE RELIC BE TAKEN DOWN IN THE WAKE OF GEORGE FLOYD’S DEATH. AT LEAST TWO LAWSUITS WERE FILED TO STOP IT, BUT THE STATE’S SUPREME COURT RULED UNANIMOUSLY THE STATUTE COULD BE REMOVED. 

THE STATE OF IDAHO ACTIVATING “CRISIS STANDARDS OF CARE” DUE TO A MASSIVE SPIKE IN COVID CASES. HOSPITALS THERE ARE SHORT ON STAFFING AND AVAILABLE BEDS. THE DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH ISSUING A STATEMENT TELLING RESIDENTS,
IF HOSPITALIZED THEY MAY NOT RECEIVE THE CARE THEY WOULD NORMALLY EXPECT. IDAHO HAS ONE OF THE LOWEST VACCINATION RATES IN THE COUNTRY. 

DEREK JETER, LARRY WALKER, TED SIMMONS, AND THE LATE MARVIN MILLER WERE ALL INDUCTED INTO THE BASEBALL HALL OF FAME TODAY. THE CEREMONY BASEBALL’S FIRST IN-PERSON INDUCTION CEREMONY SINCE THE PANDEMIC.
