The United States has promised sanctions following the Russian government announcement that it is moving closer to what could be described as an invasion of Ukraine. Those sanctions will be announced Tuesday, according to U.S. government officials.

“We must make it clear that an attack on Ukraine is an attack on the sovereignty of every UN Member State and the UN Charter – and that it will be met with swift and severe consequences,” United Nations Ambassador Linda Thomas-Greenfield said. “The United States will take further measures to hold Russia accountable for this clear violation of international law and Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. But we and our partners have been clear that there will be a swift and severe response were Russia to further invade Ukraine.”

The sanctions may not have the response Thomas-Greenfield hopes.

“Well, we’re used to it,” Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov told Reuters.

10,000 TROOPS IN 12 HOURS.

RUSSIA HAS INVADED UKRAINE… MAYBE…

TUESDAY MORNING EUROPEAN UNION OFFICIALS CONFIRMED RUSSIAN TROOPS AND MILITARY EQUIPMENT ARE NOW WITHIN UKRAINE’S BORDERS.

BOTH THE WHITE HOUSE AND EU ARE SAYING THIS ISN’T A FULL-FLEDGED INVASION.. BUT THAT IT IS A VIOLATION OF UKRAINE’S BORDERS AND INTERNATIONAL LAW.

<<”we feel very strongly about and will always be committed to the principle of territorial integrity and sovereignty.”>>

Annie Andersen: SO WERE THEY JUST BLOWING SMOKE?

IT DEPENDS IF THIS IS AN INVASION…

ACCORDING TO PUNCHBOWL NEWS… A SENIOR WHITE HOUSE OFFICIAL MONDAY NIGHT TOLD REPORTERS THAT WHILE RUSSIA HAS ALWAYS DENIED HAVING TROOPS IN TWO EASTER UKRAINE PROVINCES.. THEIR INTELLIGENCE HAS SHOWN THEY’VE ALWAYS BEEN THERE.. IT’S JUST NOW PRESIDENT VLADIMIR PUTIN IS BEING OPEN ABOUT IT.

MONDAY PUTIN ANNOUNCED HE’S NOW RECOGNIZING TWO UKRAINIAN PROVINCES AS INDEPENDENT… AND ALSO IMPLIED HE WANTS ALL OF UKRAINE… SAYING “Ukraine has never had its own authentic statehood.

MICHAEL MCFAUL.. THE FORMER U-S AMBASSADOR TO RUSSIA TOOK TO TWITTER SHORTLY AFTER PUTIN’S ANNOUNCEMENT SAYING THE WORLD HAS TO RESPOND RIGHT NOW.

GERMANY WAS QUICK TO SHUT DOWN THE NORD STREAM TWO PIPELINE…

they had long held out on doing that… but made the decision following Putin’s move Monday.

<<”we and our partners have been clear that there will be a swift and severe response were Russia to further invade Ukraine.”>>

Annie Andersen: BUT SANCTIONS MAY NOT HAVE THE IMPACT THE WHITE HOUSE IS HOPING FOR…

RUSSIA’S FOREIGN DEFENSE MINISTER TELLING REUTERS,  “Well, we’re used to it.”

WHAT WILL THOSE SANCTIONS BE… AND THEIR IMPACT?

THAT’S STILL UP IN THE AIR.. BUT

LAWMAKERS ON BOTH SIDES OF THE AISLE ARE PRESSURING BIDEN.. SAYING NOW IS THE TIME TO ACT.. REGARDLESS OF IF THIS IS IN FACT AN INVASION

THE STATE DEPARTMENT APPEARS TO BE TAKING PUTIN’S MOVEMENTS SERIOUSLY.

ALREADY ITS EMBASSY STAFF HAD BEEN MOVED TO THE FAR WESTERN PART OF UKRAINE.. BUT NOW THEY’VE BEEN MOVED TO POLAND.

AND THE SITUATION IS SO VOLATILE THAT NBC IS NOW REPORTING THE

U-S IS WORKING WITH UKRAINE TO HAVE ITS PRESIDENT EVACUATE TO POLAND AS WELL IF NEED BE.
