US-South Korea drills, Graham testimony paused, Whitmer kidnapping trial

On August 22, 2022, military drills in South Korea are expanding with U.S. help, Sen. Lindsey Graham’s (R-SC) plans to testify in a Georgia election probe grand jury investigation have been paused, and closing arguments are expected in the trial for two of the men charged with conspiring to kidnap Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer (D).

Military drills intensify in South Korea – The U.S. and South Korea began their largest combined military training in years on Monday. Field exercises are expected to involve aircraft, warships, tanks, and tens of thousands of troops. The drills are likely to draw a reaction from North Korea which is conducting weapons tests at a record pace.

Sen. Lindsey Graham’s testimony on pause – South Carolina Senator Lindsey Graham was supposed to testify tomorrow before the special grand jury investigating alleged attempts from former President Trump to influence the 2020 election results in Georgia. But on Sunday, a federal appeals court agreed to pause the court order requiring Graham to testify.

Michigan Governor kidnapping trial – Closing arguments are expected in the trial of two men charged with conspiring to kidnap Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer. Lawyers for Adam Fox and Barry Croft Junior rested their case Friday. Six people in total were charged in the alleged kidnapping plot. Two have pleaded guilty while two others were acquitted back in April.
