On August 17, 2022, Representative Liz Cheney (R-WY) has conceded in her primary race, North Korea has resumed missile testing, and former Trump attorney Rudy Giuliani will testify in Atlanta where a grand jury is investigating his actions to contest the 2020 election results in Georgia.

Primary results in Wyoming, Alaska – The results of Tuesday’s primary election is not a surprise for Wyoming Representative Liz Cheney.
Former President Trump’s fiercest republican opponent lost by nearly 30 points to Trump-backed candidate Harriet Hageman. In Alaska, Senator Lisa Murkowski and former vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin both advanced in their respective primaries.

Murkowski was among the top four vote-getters in Alaska’s Senate primary, which lumped in candidates from all parties. The top four now head to a ranked-choice general election in November. Murkowski, Republican Kelly Tshibaka and Democrat Patricia Chesbro are projected to advance to the November election. The fourth candidate is yet to be determined.

North Korea’s missile display – North Korea is back to testing its missile capabilities. Two cruise missiles launched on Wednesday as South Korea’s president marked 100 days in office. South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol called for more talks with North Korea. He said they should not be for political show but should contribute to establishing peace.

Wednesday’s missile test was North Korea’s 18th launch this year, according to CNN’s count. The last missile launch was on June 5, with eight short-range ballistic missiles — which South Korea and the US responded to by firing eight more missiles into waters off the east coast of the Korean Peninsula.

Giuliani to testify in Georgia – Former Trump attorney Rudy Giuliani is set to testify before a grand jury in Atlanta. The grand jury is investigating former President Trump and his allies for contesting the 2020 election results in Georgia. South Carolina Senator Lindsey Graham is another Trump ally swept up in the Georgia probe. Graham is subpoenaed to testify next week.
